named for a tango, this 100-meter-long pedestrian alleyway was built over an old railway in the heart of the vibrant la boca neighborhood. notable features include the colorful dwellings and walls flanking the caminito and the elevated sidewalks to prevent flooding. brimming with sculptures, artwork, handicrafts, engravings and photographs, this open-air museum is further enlivened by the tango singers and dancers who perform regularly.

style of residential houses in this part of buenos aires become a significant aspect of the urban landscape since the 1960s. corrugated metal shack, typical of the shantytowns that have come to constitute a significant amount of the housing in the area and are home to a sizeable minority of the population. In this area they are painted in bright pastel colours [initially with abandoned paint from the nearby shipyard] but over time this become trend and a tradition that local residents are proud of.
