this square, together with the connected grote markt and surrounding pedestrianized streets are the heart of the old city of antwerpen. o.l. vrouwe kathedraal, (our lady’s) was built in about 1352. after 169 years of construction the north tower rose up, 123 metres high.

it is the largest gothic construction in the belgië and the most prominent building in the square. an extremely pleasant atmosphere, human–sized proportions, and many other aspects make this space one of the best of its kind.
