these photos were taken on september 17, 2005, the occasion of the 40 year celebration of the opening of the square. in 1958 finish architect viljo ravell won an international competition for the now iconic city hall and the square itself. over time, this complex became one of the most prominent world designs.

it is in the same rank with the sidney opera, twa terminal in new york and a few others in the world. 40 years later the square is still a major ceremonial square in the city, and one of a very few places where toronto is most democratic, most urban and most itself.
