place royale is the birthplace of french civilization on this side of the atlantic ocean. construction began in 1608 and in the glory days of louis XIV place du marché becomes place royale. the oldest stone church in north america is église notre-dame-des-victoires built in 1688.

this famous town plaza is the heart of historic lower town and has been an important social center since the city's founding. place royale is bustling in summertime, only a few steps away from boutiques, restaurants, maison fornel with its exhibitions and the place-royale interpretation centre. excellent square built to human proportions one of the best completely preserved space anywhere.
