This is quite unusual square. On the first sight everything looks normal and quite pleasant. Whole space including this plaza was built at once about five years ago as a part of the ski resort on the foothill of the Blue Mountain, about two and a half hour drive north west of Toronto.
All the surrounding buildings are actual resort residential structures, all ground floors are public space, cafes, restaurants and retail. All the usual elements are there. There is even dominant vertical tower [in this case "Firehall Pizza" instead of traditional church]. Stage for "street" performances and other structures resembling "town hall" are also located around.
The only problem is that everything is fake, it looks like old "Swiss" or "Austrian" village but it is only quite successful copy. What to think about this space? Most of the people we talked to are not nearly aware of this fact, so can we count this as a success story?
