Place des Festivals, Montreal, QC, Canada, 2013[open in full screen]

  Previous

This spectacular space with a history stretching back more than 100 years has always-been a popular cultural and entertainment destination in Montreal. In 2003, the District's purpose was officially defined and this neighbourhood acquired its own visual identity and a shared vision: Life, Art and Entertainment. This space overlaps the site of Montreal's Red Light district whose history extends back to the beginning of the 19th century.

In 1982 the Montreal International Jazz Festival presented outdoor concerts in the neighbourhood for the first time. We visited this space during the "Just for laughs" festival and atmosphere on and around this square was truly unforgettable.

Public spaces are celebrating public art. Artists' works are integrated in the new places and new buildings.

The spaces become, as they call it, part of a path of discovery. Space cleverly created for performances, street-level businesses and interaction with friendly people.

In this short time it became one of the area's motors and one of the main attractions of the city for both tourists and locals.
