"This is one more of those places having the name they do not deserve. Space is courtyard and it is within the shopping centre named Market Square built in 1800 when Victoria was enjoying tremendous growth and prosperity. On our visit in June 2016 we noticed that some work is in progress to expand this area, let's wait until it's done to see what the future will bring to the city of Victoria."

We visited this square again in 2017 and the results are visible in the panorama above.

  In the memory of Victorians Market Square was: "Back in early 90s, when we were teenagers making the trek from the "Western Communities," this was where we'd meet up. It seemed like this square had everything we needed to make us forget all about the perils of being 14. We had metaphysical stores, import clothing, the Buddhist centre, Green Cuisine and a venue for live and often free music."

Market Square today is still wonderful shopping experience. Browse your way through the hippest baby store ever, the biggest bead shop in the city, a metaphysical shop or a place to buy, sell and trade camera gear.

  Variety of tasty dine-in and take-out restaurants – authentic Belgian waffles, a vegetarian buffet, Neapolitan pizzeria, curries, Mexican, Indonesian, a coffee shop and craft beer eatery and a wide range of local boutiques are located in heritage brick buildings that surround an open air courtyard.

Thoughtfully revitalized space, much expanded from just a year ago, with the terraces observing the activities in the central open area, is a quiet oases from the nearby china town or busy downtown business area.
