"We give thanks to two brothers – cedar trees [spirit poles] for allowing us to transform them into the teachers that acknowledge the ability of aboriginal people to preserve and continue the cultural practices of their ancestors". Victoria's Spirit Square, where spirit poles are standing, is located within Centennial Square, a public gathering space next to Victoria City Hall. The project is made possible by the BC Spirit Square program to support the creation of town squares in communities throughout British Columbia.
