  Previous Plaza Caracol, Varadero, Cuba

Just off the Mercaderes [merchants] street, one of the main thoroughfare in the Habana Vieja [old city] you can find this wonderful little park.

For unknown reason park is used, meaning totally occupied, by locals, obviously enjoying each others company.

   It has everything needed for smartly created public space. Enough seats, lot of shade, appreciated by everybody in caribbean climate, nice water feature and discreet monument to some local hero.

Even mural on one of the walls is adding visual element to pleasing atmosphere.

   Most surprising to me was not so small bird house quite high on one of the trees [photo bellow left]. Definitely sign of some community initiative.

Sense of safety was emphasized by the presence of this quite serious [photo bellow right] and friendly policewomen. :)
