Largo do Carmo, Lisboa, Portugal, 2002[open in full screen]

  Previous

A quiet little square in the heart of the Bairro Alto district of Lisbon, with an entrance to the gothic ruins of the 14th century Igreja (church) do Carmo.

It serves as a reminder of the devastating 1755 earthquake when the roof and walls caved in on the congregation as they were attending mass.

There is also connection true elevator de St. Justa to the downtown Baixa area.

Whole area is very well preserved, small cafés are abundant, and even music and traditional dance are performed here during the summer. Very pleasant. Photos bellow are from our 2017 visit.
