Main city square in this very historic village of approximately 10.000 inhabitants, is literary heart of the city with its central location [see map bellow]. Main city functions, like only shopping mall in Ericeira and main tourist office are located here, together with several restaurants, pharmacy and souvenir shops, all together some 23 retail places.

Very rich content for such a small village?

Ericeira was popular beach resort since 1940 but in last 10-15 years become "one of world capitals" of the surfing community and during summer months population doubles at least.

Square is very popular with locals specially in spring time before hordes of tourists occupy the whole town and make even this otherwise quiet urban square very noisy.

When we visited this square in 2010, it was noisy, just before dark, when thousands of birds were trying to find their sleeping spot on the platanus [plane trees], sometimes making benches beneath quite messy. Birds are not there any more, maybe because branches were cut off? Another very excting very popular space in Ericeira is next plaça in our collection nearby actually on the same map bellow.
