Rua Sao Tome, Lisbon, Portugal, 2017[open in full screen]

  Previous

In the hearth of Lisbon oldest neighbourhood Alfama we found this space on our way to the famous tram 28 stop.

It is more street extension than urban square but since it has few charasteristics that makes it pleasant public space it deserves place in our collection.

Even without its main attraction, you'll see what it is in a next sentence, just being in Alfama makes it desirable for any city [see other squares in our collection]. On the corner of Rua Sao Tome and Calçada do Menino de Deus, Alexandre Farto, aka Vhils, has expanded street art in spectacular fashion: Vhils paid tribute to Fado diva Amália Rodrigues, this time using the traditional Portuguese cobblestone pavement. It dates from 2015.   Lisbon is known for very liberal, but organized and with very high esthetic value, policy towards street art. In very close proximity from this space is "Graffiti Ruin", where leftovers from the city walls are used, with encouragenent from the city, to create very exciting street art ambient [photos bellow and our gallery in photo blog].
