Previous Trg Republike, Beograd
So what’s the big deal about this place? The name “gradina” is specific. It means something like a playground or urban garden, although many different opinions exist about it. It contains the term “grad”, meaning city in its name so its function is essentially urban. |
Even though it is located within the 5 minutes walk from the downtown this square still remains unknown to most city’s residents. It is hidden and that is what makes it unique and very precious. It has preserved the original atmosphere of the city from the end of 19 century. |
This is very unusual in a city that was bombed numerous times, the last time in 1999. On the map from 1878 area is still part of the Mitropole's Garden [high priest of the ortodox church].
