Passo di Gavia – elevation 2.621 m[open in full screen]

  Previous Chester Hill Lookout, Toronto

The Passo di Gavia at an elevation of 2.621 m (8,599 ft)is one of the highest and one of the most beautiful passes of the Alps and divides the province of Sondrio, very close to the border between Italy and Switzerland.

This was definitely a highlight of our European trip this summer. We visited this Pass on August 16, 2011.

The top is a Glacier and the temperature at this elevation is fairly low even in the middle of the summer.

Where it is and how to find it? Just follow map bellow right, it is approximately 40km south-east of Bormio, Italy.

Very last photo bellow is from equally exciting, nearby, Passo dello Stelvio [2757 m or 9045 ft].

Next from our roof at The Esplanade, Toronto
