treviso, small town in northern italy, with its own distinctive character, is rare town with completely preserved city walls. this square in the center of old city is around duomo, cathedral church dedicated to st. peter. duomo was initially a small church from late roman times but in 1520 chapels and crypt were added. after later numerous restorations only the gate remain original. entrance is facing relatively recent development and has somewhat unbalanced space distribution, street with heavy traffic and space used as a parking lot between church administration and some other heritage buildings. only left over space for pedestrians are steps around duomo and little triangle connecting them to the street. this is quite unusual in this city otherwise very well preserved. just check the space on the other side of this church.
