this square was laid out just after the second world war in honour to carl marx and fridrih engels. it was called marx and engels square until couple of years ago. it is a perfect example of socialist ceremonial square, with house of syndicate, central committee of communist party and museum of revolution all placed around.

in the distance house of parliament is also visible. it was recently somewhat redesigned - humanized with ideas of one time mayor of the city, famous architect bogdan bogdanovic, when trees and the monument to nikola pasic, popular prewar politician are added. for long time it was used only as a huge parking lot.
