winter garden has all physical and social characteristics of the good public square except one. it is under the roof but that should not disqualified it from this collection. actually I think that we should include new category - indoor square - in our types of squares; more and more social public spaces are appearing, especially in north america, indoor, in shopping malls, business complexes etc.

after being severely damaged in the 9/11 attack on the world trade center, it reopened in september 2002. it is in the middle of world financial plaza overlooking new york harbor. really rich program of events takes place both inside and on the outdoor plaza.
